At the Edge of the Trees
Where the forest ends and the field begins, something is usually watching.
The treeline is a border drawn in a language older than maps. On one side there is cover; on the other, open ground and risk. Animals spend their lives reading that seam, stepping out only as far as they must, ready to fold back into the dark between the trunks. A clearing at dawn is rarely as empty as it looks.
What you notice first is that you were noticed first. A deer lifts its head before you have finished your thought; a fox is already a shape leaving. Their stillness is not calm but arithmetic — how far, how fast, which way the wind is carrying you. The mist both helps them and hides them, softening every outline until the field seems to breathe.
On a screen the scene keeps that patience. Nothing lunges, nothing performs; the animal holds its ground at the margin and lets you look, or seems to. A wallpaper like this watches back a little, and asks only that you slow down to the speed of the clearing.
