The Sea, Reduced to a Line
When the water goes still, a seascape becomes two colours and the thin seam between them.
On a calm morning the sea gives up its detail. There are no waves to freeze, no spray to catch — just a field of grey-blue below and a paler grey-blue above, divided by a horizon so level it looks drawn with a ruler. The people who came for drama put the camera away, and the ones who stay learn to work with almost nothing.
The only real decision is where to put the line. Drop it low and the sky takes over, all weather and open space; raise it near the top and the water becomes the subject, a wide plane you could imagine skating across. Centre it and something uneasy happens: the picture holds its breath, symmetrical and slightly wrong, like a scale balanced so finely it refuses to tip. A long exposure smooths the last of the texture, until the surface reads less like water than like frosted glass.
This is the rare scene that asks for less rather than more. There is no foreground to explain, no busy corner to crop away. As a wallpaper it slips back into the background the way it was always meant to — icons rest on the calm water, the menu bar leans against the sky, and the horizon runs quietly behind everything you actually open.
