A Different Wallpaper for Each Virtual Desktop
Switching desks goes faster when every one of them has a color to answer to.
Windows and macOS both let a virtual desktop keep its own background, and in both the setting hides away from the wallpaper panel. On Windows 11 it lives in Task View: right-click a desktop thumbnail and choose the background from there. On macOS you switch to the Space first and set the picture the ordinary way, and it stays behind that Space alone.
The reason to bother is that recognition runs ahead of reading. A window title needs a moment to parse, while a field of green or a grey concrete wall has already registered before the swipe finishes. Keep the brightness of the set close so the switch does not flash, and let hue do the identifying: one cool, one warm, one almost neutral.
Pictures with quiet middles work best, since each desktop still has to carry icons and windows across its center. Detail pushed toward the edges survives that better than a subject parked dead center. Three desktops, three pictures, and the only thing left to remember is which color you were heading for.
